Code Red Road Race was the idea of Leila McTier, a freshman at Watauga High School. In 2025, Leila was inside the condo pictured here, with her family, when it caught fire. Thankfully, everyone escaped safely, but the experience left a lasting impression on her.
After seeing firsthand how quickly emergencies can happen and how much communities rely on first responders, Leila wanted to do something meaningful to give back. The Code Red Road Race was created as a way to bring the community together, raise awareness, and support the people who show up when we need them most.
Through this event, runners, walkers, families, and neighbors can come together for a fun and meaningful day while supporting a cause that truly matters.
The sole mission of the Code Red Road Race is to raise money for the Beech Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
